Suzy Duffy is a singer / songwriter based in Fife, Scotland. Signed to ZTT in the early 90’s when she was 21, she co-wrote and recorded an albums worth of songs, sadly none of the tracks were released and 2 years later she was released from her contract. Disillusioned by the industry she gave up singing for 10 years until ZTT Producer Ian Morrow released one of the tracks “Look Me Over” as a limited record release on his own label. It gained huge popularity in the Northern Soul scene being played on dance floors worldwide and also on UK’s Smooth Radio.
Not long after she joined MySpace she collaborated with American Producer Dj Hen Boogie co-writing 6 tracks on her debut EP “Truth Vol 1” which was released on the producers own label. Shortly after she co-wrote with German producers behind down tempo bands Lemongrass and Weathertunes. The songs have featured on multiple lounge / chill compilations.
Suzy has recently collaborated with funk/ soul band “ Zaimie “ on their 2nd album, she has co-written & recorded 3 songs, the album is due for release this year on Bluey (Incognito’s) Splash label.
Suzy Duffy is a singer / songwriter and has recently recorded her debut album. It took a year, costing her £8000 and she has worked with some of the best musicians/ songwriters in the music business. Bass playing legend / session musician Mo Foster ( Phil Collins, Gerry Rafferty, Jeff Beck) co-wrote and played on one track, John Myers (Shane MacGowan / Sinead O’Connor) played tin whistle and flute on another. Anthony Clark (Rod Stewart / Elton John) played all instruments on one track. Her co-writing partners are (German award winning producer) Joerg Alfter, Tim Moore (recorded /toured with The Bee Gee’s, Nik Kershaw, Johnny Halliday, Bros and many others) & Paul Campbell was signed as a songwriter to EMI / Chrysalis & co-wrote “ The Last Thing I Need Is You” ( Hooverphonic) with Cathy Dennis, he was also the guitarist in The Christians. Surrounded by incredible musicians and co-arranging majority of the tracks she was in good hands with Producer Joerg Alfter, who played piano on majority of the tracks and also programmed / composed awe inspiring string arrangements.
The album consists of 8 songs, 6 of which Suzy co-wrote and 2 covers the traditional “Water Is Wide” and Gerry Rafferty’s “Right Moment”. The album has a subtle retro melancholy vibe, piano is prominent in most of the tracks, you can also hear acoustic guitar/ Lap steel guitar, Hammond, as well as flute / fiddle. There are hints of soul, country, folk and jazz and you hear influences of Roberta Flack and Carole King. Rolling Stones Producer Chris Kimsey and Arranger / Composers Richard Nile’s and Ian Dean have all praised Suzy’s soulful voice, songwriting and the undeniable musicianship on the album.
However, Suzy needs your help, her album isn’t completely finished. Her goal is to raise enough for it to be professionally mixed and mastered to the highest level and to get a limited edition of CD’s and records done. Some money for promotion would be a huge help too. The album will eventually be released on all music platforms.
