Goodnight Suzie is fronted by dynamic singer-songwriter duo Suzie and Ben Bradford. Hailing originally from Spokane fame as The Side Project, they relocated to Seattle in the mid-aughts, released six albums along the way, and then transformed into Goodnight Suzie with their 2019 album release of all-original songs, Boombox. Music Connection magazine dubbed Boombox “bright, upbeat, and refreshingly straightforward,” noting that Suzie is “gifted with flawless pitch and intonation” and that her voice “is a perfect fit for these songs.”
Goodnight Suzie has a sixth-sense ability to read a crowd and deliver an engaging performance that ranges from lingering ballads to rocking dance numbers. Whether they are performing as a duo or a five-piece band, with Suzie’s ethereal lead vocals and keyboard, and Ben’s silken harmonies and virtuoso acoustic guitar, Goodnight Suzie always leaves their audiences in awe and wanting more.
These days Goodnight Suzie divides their time between Seattle and Sedona, touring up and down and throughout the Western US in their 34-foot 5th-wheel RV, The Eagle. Their latest project is a five-song suite of original music in collaboration with the award-winning 45-piece orchestra Northwest Sinfonia. Recorded last fall at the renowned Bastyr Chapel in Seattle, this five-song suite, titled Queen of Sparrows, will be released on Spotify, vinyl and CD in the fall of 2024.

The Vision
The seed of our five-song orchestral suite, Queen of Sparrows, was conceived after a southern Oregon vineyard performance in 2018 where Suzie was affectionally dubbed the "Singing Sparrow" by a superfan. Initially, Suzie wasn’t sure she liked the name, but after reading about the deep spiritual significance of the sparrow—hope, community, adaptability, faith, joy, stability—Suzie and Ben marveled at how perfect it was as a symbol for Goodnight Suzie’s developing project.
Sparrows teach us the importance of coming together as a community and working as a team. The adaptability of sparrows reminds us to be flexible in our lives and embrace change. They also symbolize resilience and the power of faith during challenging times.
As Suzie contemplated the marvelous synchronicity of this symbolism with her journey with Ben, she felt a deep, inner voice calling her: "If you listen to me and let go of the vices that hamper you, I'll show you unimaginable dreams beyond belief." Shortly after, both Suzie and Ben decided to quit alcohol, and devote their lives to this sparrow calling. By October 2024, it will have been three years since they made this life-changing decision. They continue to marvel at how the sparrow energy keeps bringing more and more perfect -fit people into their lives.
A few months into their alcohol-free transformation, as they began performing with a newfound clarity of vision, Suzie would often wonder aloud, “Can you imagine these songs with a symphony behind them?”
Soon after, Suzie’s Dream Coach, Nina Victoria, appeared, and it felt as though all the best people in their lives began seamlessly assuming their roles in the Goodnight Suzie Dream Team, as if someone beyond was clapping their hands and calling, "Places, everybody!"
The concept of gratitude barely begins to express our awe for the magic this project has brought to us and everyone who joins us. It feels like it came from another world; we feel so blessed to be its vessels. We are profoundly thankful for the fantastic collaborative sparrow journey we've been on throughout this once-in-a-lifetime dream project.
Our Mission
In keeping with the wonderful symbolism of the sparrow, Goodnight Suzie’s overarching mission is to strengthen and inspire local music and arts communities in alliance with creators across the musical and artistic spectrum.
This special fundraiser is in support of the design, production, and marketing of the Queen of Sparrows streaming, vinyl, and CD releases this fall, as well as to support the Goodnight Suzie Team and Suzie and Ben, who took a leap of faith and extended themselves financially to make the Queen of Sparrows dream a reality.
This has been a life-changing experience that we are forever grateful for. There have been so many behind the scenes challenges, yet also an unprecedented amount of growth within the band and the surrounding team. Thank you for enabling us to continue to create and share our art and music with the world, and bring our communities closer together.
Profound gratitude to all of you who have already contributed to and continue to sustain this project financially, with your volunteer time, and with moral support. Especially to our video team, photographers, hair/make up team, and the many who have volunteered their time, efforts, and gifts to make this possible. We also thank all of our incredible sponsors. Because of you, we are very close to the finish line!
The Making of Queen of Sparrows
Our eternal gratitude for everyone who has flocked together with us in support of our Queen of Sparrows project, from providing space for us to perform and record to infusing the magic with fresh energy and excitement.
We are especially grateful for the collaborators on the Queen of Sparrows five-song symphonic suite record. The making of Queen of Sparrows has brought together a rousing palette of award-winning and world-renowned producers, orchestrators, artists, and musicians, including:
Northwest Sinfonia, a 45-piece session symphonic orchestra based in Seattle, renowned for recording soundtracks to motion pictures and computer games. Founded in 1995, it is credited with over 100 recordings. It draws its members mostly from the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, and Pacific Northwest Ballet orchestras.
Andrew Joslyn, who composed and arranged all of the Queen of Sparrows instrumentation for the Northwest Sinfonia’s 45-piece orchestra. He is an award-winning highly sought-after musical polymath whose passion for collaboration has led him to work with a remarkably diverse group of world-class artists, touring the world, performing, co-writing and arranging music on over 400 songs throughout his career. He is a gifted violinist who leads the Passenger String Quartet and runs his own production studio in Seattle. He is a national trustee for the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Recording Academy (Grammy Awards) and a local advocate for music and the arts on the West Coast.
Eric Lilavois, who is a producer, musician, songwriter, collaborator, and owner of London Bridge Studio in Seattle, Washington, where in collaboration with Andrew Joslyn, he finalized production of the Queen of Sparrows Bastyr Chapel recordings. He is a bandmate in the Indie Duo “The Copper Trees” and currently sits on The Board of Trustees for the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Recording Academy (Grammy Awards). He is a local advocate for music and the arts on the West Coast and sits on the Seattle Music Commission, is a SXSW Mentor, GRAMMY U Mentor, an advisor for the non-profit Totem Star, and is an organizer of the PNW Care Package group (which assembles emergency kits for those in need).
David Sabee, who is the Grammy award-winning music director and principal conductor of the Northwest Sinfonia. David conducted the Northwest Sinfonia in concert with Suzie and Ben at the world-class Bastyr Chapel. He has been a member of the Seattle Symphony since 1986 and has worked with countless film composers on the soundtrack recording sessions of hundreds of motion pictures.
Amy Dragon, Mastering Engineer, who, along with Andrew Josylyn, mastered Queen of Sparrows out of her Telegraph Mastering studio in Portland, Oregon. She has been working with extraordinary artists and labels around the world, mastering the full spectrum of genre releases since 2013.
The Chapel of the Seminary of St. Thomas (aka Bastyr Chapel), where Queen of Sparrows was recorded live, May 2023. It is located on the grounds of what is now Bastyr University, in Kenmore, Washington. The chapel has gained notoriety with film composers as one of the premiere film scoring stages in the United States, due to its superb acoustics. The sanctuary is a precise, one-fifth scale model of St. Peter's in Rome. The boldly coffered ceiling of the nave-sanctuary rises to the equivalent of five stories (48 feet) above the terrazzo floor to give great dignity to the purpose of this room.
VALA (Venues for Artists in the Local Area) connects artists to artists, artists to the community, and the community to art by providing a cherished “third place” for artists and community alike, a sanctuary beyond home and work, where diverse forms of art flourish, and connections deepen. Founded in 2010 by Jessica Kravitz and John Lambert, VALA was instrumental in fostering and nurturing Goodnight Suzie’s partnership with David Sabee and the Northwest Sinfonia. Given Goodnight Suzie’s mission alignment with VALA, Suzie subsequently joined VALA as a member of the board. Future collaborations will include a vinyl release live performance celebration and record signing acoustic performance event, as well as a VALA Art Center Award Showcase performance.
