About Gareth Cartwright Music

Gareth Cartwright is a husband, dad, school teacher, worship leader and songwriter. He carries a passion for encountering the Holy Spirit and seeing God move in this generation. Originally from the North of England, Gareth's parents moved to Swansea when he was five, swapping the green hills of Yorkshire for the milder and equally green South Wales coast. Situated on the doorstep of the Gower Peninsula, the UK's first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Gareth has had the privilege of putting down roots and raising a family in stunning landscape and breathing in fresh sea air. The coastal paths and local beaches of his home have played a big part in the producing of his music, as Gareth takes inspiration from faith found in scripture, his life's experience and the beauty of creation around him. Most importantly to him, he has a prophetic heart and listens carefully to what he feels the Holy Spirit is prompting him to write about. This is an exciting combination of ingredients which, when mixed together forms powerful results and a sound that is undeniably Gareth.

"What's happening here is new, but it's been a long time in the making."

Gareth's life has been full of blessing and in many ways could be perceived as idyllic, but it has not been without tragedy. In 2011 he lost his first wife to cancer leaving him on his own with three young children to provide for.

"This was without doubt the most challenging period of time in my life."

Prior to her passing, his wife 'Juliana' had been brave enough to tell him he would need to re-marry and this would prove to be crucial in the healing process. A year later he married Rhiannon and they now have the great privilege and also challenge of bringing up seven children together. Family has played a key role in Gareth's life and he recognises that without the brave women in his life and the support of his parents and wider family, his life would've been very different.

"I owe my life to my family and I'm very grateful that they have allowed me to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit and invest some time creating the music projects I'm working on. This is about obedience to a calling; I simply want to become who I was created to be and this is the season for action"
